Total Lunar Eclipse | 7 September 2025

ree

On Sunday the 7th of September, we witness a total lunar eclipse at 15° Pisces, conjunct the North Node.

In astronomy, a lunar eclipse happens when the Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon, creating a shadow across the moon's surface and bathing it in a dark, copper red colour, termed the “Blood Moon.” In the ancient world, this sight was never treated lightly. To the Mesopotamians, it meant danger for the king, so a substitute ruler was put in place until the Moon returned to safety. In China, the eclipse was said to be caused by a dragon devouring the Moon, and people clashed cymbals and drums to drive it away. The Incas spoke of a jaguar attacking the Moon and painting it with blood. Across cultures, a Blood Moon symbolised endings, upheaval, and divine judgment - a time when fate intruded directly on human affairs.

Astrologically, a lunar eclipse is just as potent and not treated as just another full moon. It is a turning point, a karmic culmination. Where a normal Full Moon illuminates, an eclipse rewrites destiny. Traditionally, eclipses are omens. They signify great endings, reversals, or calamities, especially when visible in a region. A lunar eclipse in particular was linked with the death of women, queens, or the common people (since the Moon signifies the masses), and with upheavals in food supplies, fertility, and health. This eclipse happens in the sign of Pisces. In traditional, medieval astrology, Pisces belongs to Jupiter. Pisces and is moist, fertile, and watery. Eclipses in Pisces were historically feared for bringing floods, epidemics, deaths by water, and mass sorrows. Because the Moon is conjunct the North Node, which amplifies and exaggerates, the scale of loss or upheaval is magnified. The North Node was seen as excessive and destabilising: it inflates, stretches, and distorts. This means we are looking at matters “too much” - too much water, too much death, too much dissolution.

The Moon at 15° Pisces sits on the Gemini degree, so revelations and closures may come through communication, messages, the media, or travel. The North Node at 18° Pisces lies on the Virgo degree, intensifying themes of purification, health, and order. Together, this means the eclipse will dissolve what is chaotic, unhealthy, or false - especially in how we communicate, process information, and manage health or routines. This week, leading up to the eclipse, the world lost Giorgio Armani, a face of feminine fashion for decades. He embodied Pisces ideals of fluidity and universal appeal. His passing marks the end of an era in fashion - an elegant dissolution of a creative icon’s presence. Sadia Psychology, a female psychology social media influencer who I knew was a fraud years ago, was exposed for having fraudulent psychology credentials along with revelations about personal misconduct. This fall from grace mirrors the Pisces eclipse's theme of illusions dissolving. The Moon in Pisces, conjunct the North Node, strips away fantasies, and here we see how public perception collapses when truth emerges. Pisces sells a dream, and her fraudulent career is over - quite literally lunar eclipse in Pisces conjunct the North Node. The Moon and Node trine Jupiter in Cancer: Jupiter is strong by sign and brings fertility and growth. In mundane astrology this can signify mass gatherings, the involvement of religious leaders, priests, or judges, and matters tied to homeland, food, and family. Yet as this is an eclipse, Jupiter’s fertility can show as excessive rains, floods, or outbreaks of disease. In Pakistan, devastating monsoon floods have forced more than half a million people from their homes, with nearly two million affected across Punjab as rivers burst their banks. Entire villages lie submerged, harvests destroyed, and dozens of lives already lost. Nothing captures the force of a Pisces eclipse more clearly than water overwhelming boundaries - the Moon in Pisces dissolving land, homes, and the fragile order of daily life. The Sun conjunct Mercury in Virgo - Virgo governs medicine, agriculture, and the harvest. An eclipse opposed here threatens food supplies, harvest failures, corruption in medicine, or scandals among scribes and officials. Mercury afflicted by eclipse is notorious for lies being exposed, scandals in documents, contracts, and trade, which we have already started to see.

Saturn retrograde at 29° Pisces adds weight. Saturn in Pisces was always seen as dangerous for the elderly, the sick, and those already weak. At the end of the sign, Saturn is reaping what cannot continue, showing the removal of the frail, the collapse of old institutions, and collective mourning. I have already written and spoken about this extensively over the past couple of months, but the eclipse adds an additional weight to this.

The most supportive aspect of this eclipse is a trine to Jupiter in Cancer. This suggests that out of endings, blessings can grow. Families, homes, and ancestral lines may carry both loss and growth. For some, it may bring healing after grief; for others, a new chapter in family or homeland affairs. The North Node’s trine to Jupiter adds a sense of destiny to this growth, showing that what ends is clearing space for a more nurturing future.

On the other side of the axis, the Sun in Virgo conjunct Mercury brings mental clarity, analysis, and truth telling. Virgo’s precision ensures that what is revealed is not vague or dreamlike but sharply defined. Lies, distortions, and misinformation are cut through; contracts, paperwork, or conversations may play pivotal roles. Yet the Sun opposite the Pisces Moon shows the tension: the mind seeks clarity, while the heart seeks surrender. This is the essence of the eclipse choosing between clinging to logic or flowing with dissolution. I have already spoken about this year being a year of all things and people corrupt finally being exposed no matter how well it has been hidden - this eclipse is the peak of that. Whatever is being exposed now as immoral, believe it. Whatever is ending, is final. Likely Manifestations

-For the people: grief, sickness, mass sorrow, and exposure of corruption. Families and communities may feel dislocated by water or health crises.

-For rulers: threats to reputation. Because the Sun (the king) is opposed by the eclipsed Moon with Mercury, there may be scandals in governments or public exposure of lies.

-For lands and nations: floods, epidemics, harvest failures, and trade disruptions. Pisces points to water, Virgo to crops and storage - together they point to food insecurity and spoiled harvests.

-For religion and belief systems: Jupiter is involved, so priests, imams, and bishops may be thrust into scandal or death. Religious bodies may lose members or face public disgrace. Traditionally, eclipses were judged by duration: the longer the Moon is darkened, the longer the effects linger. A total eclipse often has influence for many months after. Since this one is on the North Node, events may unfold quickly and with excess. Effects are strongest in regions where the eclipse is visible at night. It will occur at 8:11 PM in South Africa. How to Use the Energy

-Water rituals: Offer water to the earth, place flowers in rivers, cleanse your home with salt water, or consciously let tears fall as an offering.

-Detox: Light fasting, clean foods, and herbal teas to support the body. Avoid alcohol, sugar, and processed foods.

-Digital clarity: Step back from media noise; be discerning with information to avoid Gemini-degree misinformation.

-Emotional release: Journaling, letter-burning, or breathwork practices to surrender grief.

-Decluttering: Purify your environment to mirror Virgo’s order.

-Acts of compassion: Service, charity, and devotion align with Pisces’ higher expression and open karmic protection. Degree Notes

-15° Pisces (Moon) | Gemini degree. Matters of messages, contracts, trade, siblings, neighbours, and roads are at risk of disruption or exposure.

-18° Pisces (North Node) | Virgo degree. Matters of medicine, purity, order, hygiene, agriculture come to the forefront - often through loss or necessity. This eclipse is not a gentle turning of the page. It is a tearing away, a dissolution in the Piscean style.

A lunar eclipse in Pisces reminds us that nothing on earth is fixed. What feels permanent can vanish in a moment. But where Pisces dissolves, Virgo purifies. Where the Moon darkens, the Sun in Virgo illuminates the truth. In your own life, this is the time to release, to surrender, to trust that what is taken could not have continued. Allow the waters to wash away what is finished, and step forward lighter into what is waiting. Zuliana Zaya Professional Traditional Medieval Astrologer & Sacred Strategist
